Greek mountain tea is derived by a variety of the herb Sideritis that Greeks have used for centuries for its numerous health benefits. Sideritis (or 'iron herb') grows in high altitudes, and the variety scardica that is found in Greece is considered one of the best.
Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, was writing about mountain tea in the 5th century BC, recommending it as an aid to immunity and respiratory health. Following Hippocrates' footsteps, Greek yiayias and moms have been brewing mountain tea to nurse colds and upset tummies for years.
In recent years, the humble infusion has received considerable attention by scientists and given rise to numerous studies showing that this unique tea is packed with antioxidants and other compounds that can have a positive impact on your well-being.

How can you incorporate mountain tea into your daily routine?
Mountain tea has a delicate, pleasant flavor and it can be enjoyed hot, or cold. It is less bitter than black or green tea, but if you prefer a sweeter beverage it goes wonderfully with honey.

How to brew the perfect cup of mountain tea.
If you are using tea bags, you don't really need any instructions! Just boil some water and steep the tea bag for at least 6-7 minutes.
Otherwise, bring a pot of water to boil. For a cup of water use about a 1/4 of a cup of leaves and remember that if you are using the whole bunch of mountain tea you can utilize all and any part of the herb - flowers, leaves, and cut stems! When the water is boiling, add the appropriate amount of herb and lower the heat to a simmer. Mix the herbs in the water, cover the pot and let simmer for 8 minutes. Strain into a container and if you wish add some honey, and/or a touch of lemon, or other citrus fruit.
If you plan to ice your tea, make a stronger infusion and add ice. It's extremely refreshing, caffeine free and a natural gift to your health!
ATTENTION: In case you are pregnant, or trying to conceive, consult your doctor before consuming any herbal tea.
